CBD – Natures Helper

It seems more and more we are hearing of natural substances that have the ability to help improve our wellbeing and quality of life. Recently medical Cannabis has become a hot topic for its ability to help people with PTSD, cancer, and chronic pain. While Cannabis can be both safe and effective for many, it still remains illegal at a federal level, rendering its healing properties unavailable to many. Medicinal hemp on the other hand is a perfectly legal form of cannabis that can be bought and sold legally all around the country. This is because Hemp does not contain the chemical THC. THC is one of many compounds found in Cannabis known as cannabinoids. These cannabinoids have various effects on the body. While Hemp does not contain the cannabinoid THC, it does contain the Cannabinoid CBD. CBD has recently received a lot of attention due to its amazing healing and therapeutic properties.
What is CBD
CBD is a cannabinoid found in both hemp and cannabis that is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce a high. CBD acts as a potent antioxidant for the body and has the ability to protect the body from free radical damage (5). Free radicals are chemicals that can damage the cells of the body, and can come from a poor diet, toxin exposure, and air pollution. Antioxidants bind to these free radicals and neutralize them before they have a chance to injure the cells of the body. CBD is especially protective of the brain, and in animals has helped with recovery brain injuries such as stroke (6).
CBD does not just help the brain, but it also is useful for those who wish to support their mental health. In fact, two recent scientific journal articles looked into the interactions of CBD with schizophrenia, and the results found CBD could greatly reduce symptoms of schizophrenics, without many of the side effects that surround pharmaceutical treatments (3). CBD has also shown incredibly useful in reducing social anxiety (2), and is also useful for insomnia, especially at higher doses (1). For children with epilepsy, CBD has also proven to be incredibly useful for seizure prevention and symptom reduction (4).
Dosing and quality
Whenever using hemp products, such as seeds and oils, it is important to opt for organic products. This will ensure that the products have less agriculture containments such as pesticides and herbicides, and it will also ensure for a more nutritious product. In terms of CBD supplementation, this can mean a cleaner supplement, especially if the CBD supplement also utilizes hemp oil.
CBD doses range from about 8-15 mg as a daily dose for people who wish to use it to stay healthy. Depending on the person and their body, the dose of CBD can also be tailored to meet their specific needs.
Absorption with CBD is a big issue, and according to multiple sources, many oral CBD supplements are not highly absorbable. It is said that only as little as 6-15% of the CBD can be absorbed orally (7). However, if the oral supplement contains a lysosomal form of CBD, the absorption rate can be significantly higher (7). The best means of absorption of CBD is through vaporization using CBD oil. This is because the liver breaks down the CBD when it is ingested orally, but when CBD is vaporized it is able to bypass breakdown in the liver, and therefore more is available for the body to use.
